Zombie Cannibalism Games Make Parents Alert List

Two games with zombie cannibalism made a MediaWise Parent Alert! list of games to avoid letting your kids play. NBC News reports that F.E.A.R. and Stubbs the Zombie made the list. The game features zombies and cannibalism scenes.

David Walsh, president of MediaWise Parent Alert, says, "It's something we've never seen before. He says today's games are both more extreme and more easily available to underage kids than at any other time in gaming history.

Here are the twelves games MediaWise recommends parents should avoid, plus the ratings they have been given by the ESRB:

  1. Far Cry (M)
  2. F.E.A.R. (M)
  3. The Warriors (M)
  4. Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse (M)
  5. True Crime: New York City (M)
  6. Blitz: The League (M)
  7. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (M)
  8. God of War (M)
  9. Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil (M)
  10. Urban Reign (T)
  11. Conker: Live and Reloaded (M)
  12. Resident Evil 4 (M)
All the above games were rated M for Mature (17+) except for Urban Reign which was rated T for Teens. More about the ratings can be found on ESRB. The organization also recommended ten games that were safe for children.

  7. We Love Katamari (E)
  8. Sid Meier's Pirates! (E)
  9. Dance Dance Revolution ULTRAMIX3 (E 10+)
  10. Backyard Baseball 2005 (E)
The Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse video game in particular has struck a nerve because of the violent content which sounds similar to what you might see in an R-rated horror zombie flick. Zombies eat humans - that's what they do. In the game players control the zombie and try to devour human brains. The game is already rated M for teens 17 and over indicating that kids should not play the violent zombie game. More about Stubbs the Zombie can be found on the Wikipedia entry. Sen. Joe Lieberman blasted the game according to the NBC News story. Lieberman says, "It's just the worst kind of message to kids. He warns that games like Stubbs "can be dangerous to your children's health."
