NetDevil Signs On to Build Lego MMOG

Lego MMOGLego has chosen NetDevil to help build a virtual Lego game universe. You can read the official press release here. Kotaku also offers the following scoop about the Lego massively multi-player online Lego game.
What I've heard is that the game could be sort of like Second Life but, you know, a game. The idea, I believe, is that you will be able to construct your own in-game content using the fun and familiar mechanic of building with real world Legos.

I suspect part of the reason NetDevil was selected is because of their amazing work with destructible environments, though I'm sure their enthusiasm for game development also played a large role in the decision.

We'll be meeting with the NetDevil guys, fellow Coloradoans, later this week and I'll make sure to ask all of the right questions. Like, does Lego have the go ahead to build Star Wars, Batman or their other IP into this game? SO HOT!
The Lego Star Wars games have been very popular so a Lego MMOG would probably be popular as well. If they can get the rights to use superhero and movie characters then the odds that the Lego MMOG will be popular greatly increase. A teaser page for the Lego MMOG shows Lego construction men building the online virtual world. The teaser page says the MMOG is coming out in 2008.

Darth Vader in a Bikini

Darth Vader in Bikini in Lego Star WarsThe force of LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy is difficult to resist. Not only can you have lightsaber battles with little digital LEGO Star Wars figures but you can also mix and match their body parts. In this particular screenshot a cross-dressing Darth Vader is wearing a bikini.
In LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, for the first time ever, characters can get in and out of vehicles, as well as ride creatures. Because of its LEGO brick style, players also can mix and match the body parts of more than 50 playable characters to create one of millions of possible LEGO Star Wars heroes. And on PlayStation 2, Xbox and Windows platforms, a game save from the first LEGO Star Wars can unlock another 50-plus additional characters for Free Play mode; that's more than 100 total characters! Other exciting additions include free-roaming vehicle levels, the ability to switch ships at will in Free Play mode, cool new character-specific attacks and maneuvers, playable mini-kit vehicles, an adaptive difficulty option and more.
Vader may be able to become a cross-dresser but the family values remain in the game according to a press release from LucasArts.
"LEGO Star Wars II is an ideal family game, if not the ultimate family game," lauded the San Jose Mercury News. The Rocky Mountain News' reviewer agreed: "For me, the game's biggest draw is the bonding experience it delivers for me and my son. It's rare to find a game that inspires you to spend as much time laughing and talking with your child as you would trying to beat a level or create a confusing creature."
It sounds like a great family game. However, this excerpt from a Blogcritics review makes you wonder. :-)
You can't stick too close to the script when you're dealing with LEGOs. Besides, one of my favorite things about this game is playing as Chewbacca and ripping people's arms out of their sockets.

Oh, and don't be too shocked to stumble across some Stormtroopers bathing together. It's funny, and a little disturbing.
Gaming Evolution also gave LEGO Star Wars II a great review.
Overall Lego Star Wars II is truly an amazing sequel. It takes the part of the formula that work quite well in the first installment, and just expanded on it with new content, levels, and characters to create one immersive title. Dispite a few issues here and there, the title is still a unique gaming experience and depicts Epsiode IV, V, and VI to a 'T'. If you really was/are interested in Lego Star Wars, then you should go out and buy this title, Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy.
You will find a slew of other postive reviews out there as well. It sounds like they have greatly expanded on the original hit by adding improved game play, humor and the ability to change body parts. More information about the game can be found on Amazon.com and on the official website.
