Nintendo Apologizes for Failure to Include Same-Sex Relationships in Tomodachi Life

Tomodachi Life relationships

Tomodachi Life is a virtual world simulator for Mii characters on the Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo has been criticized because the game only allows for straight Mii relationships. A Twitter account was event set-up pushing for @Miiquality.

Nintendo has apologized for the failure to include same-sex relationships, but says it is too late to fix it post-shipment. However, a future version would be more inclusive, i.e. equality for all types of Miis. Here is Nintendo's apology:
"We apologize for disappointing many people by failing to include same-sex relationships in Tomodachi Life. Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to change this game's design, and such a significant development change can't be accomplished with a post-ship patch."
Nintendo promises a future version (if it happens) will be more inclusive. Nintendo says, "We pledge that if we create a next installment in the Tomodachi series, we will strive to design a game-play experience from the ground up that is more inclusive, and better represents all players."

We hope there will be a future version of Tomodachi Life that includes all types of Mii relationships. They clearly didn't think it through in time for this game, which is a shame. This should send a big heads up to developers of similar type games to allow both gay and straight relationships among avatars.
