The Castle Wolfenstein games have been around since the early days of computing. There's a new Wolfenstein in development from Activision Blizzard. The following trailer is NVIDIA's Medusa DX10 Demo to show off graphic capability. It's a very cool demo and an interesting twist on Medusa. It is unfortunate that you can't play this as a game. Also check out the realistic rain demo here.
The Lucas Arts Lego game version of Indiana Jones will be out this June. A CVG article reveals much about the game. Indiana still has his fear of snakes. He has hit hat and his whip as you can see in the video below. One interesting note is that the Nazis are not called Nazis in the game but they are still horrible, terrible and evil Lego people. They are not Nazis but yet they are Nazis.
Jone's snake phobia hasn't been overlooked either. When faced with slithering nasties the hero will be rendered ineffective leaving it down to another character - presumably AI or player-driven - to help out. And the phobia mechanic won't be exclusive to Indy, either.
Stacking the Indy adventure up against the Star Wars games, Edge says that "Pulling levels to open doors, building platforms to reach them and then destroying them (and everything else) for studs has grown into something more open and explorative".
According to the article, Lego Indy is far funnier than Lego Star Wars. It describes how, in the scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark when Indy shoves the Staff of Ra into a hole in the map room, the intense beam of light that reveals the resting place of the Ark will actually either blind the hero of set the room on fire. But it's not saying which.
Perhaps partly in keeping with this, according to Edge Traveller's Tales has chosen to remove Nazis - and any reference to them it appears, from what TT says - from the game, "Lego having already replaced them with an anonymous genocidal, occultist, trenchcoat-wearing master-race". The studio explains it has left it down to the strength of the Indy characters to show they are bad guys - but "that said, we like to reinforce the fact that these really are terrible, terrible people".
Here is the trailer for Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures.
The Wikipedia entry says that Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga features Indy as an unlockable playable character. You can see Indy in Lego Star Wars in this video clip. (via Fantasy SF Blog)
With the Iron Man movie coming out in 2008 it is not a surprise that Sega and Marvel cut a deal to make a video game. Game Informersays Sega spent a lot of time on Iron Man's aerial capabilities and you can see that in the trailer below.
The team at Sega didn't want to confine old Shell Head to the close quarters of a New York alley or subway, and are designing a lot of large open environments to showcase his aerial abilities. Iron Man is basically a flying human tank, but even so he weaves through enemy fire and past factory smoke stacks at speeds approaching 300 m.p.h. He needs his space.
Sega has a wealth of comic lore to draw from, so the game won't be limited to the movie's plot. Not only does this mean that we will see popular characters from the comics like Jim Rhodes, Jarvis and Pepper Potts, but we'll also face off against a variety of old comic villains and don some of the more popular Iron Man suits from years gone by. The game is off to a promising start, and if Sega can pull all the pieces together it might end up with a game that can appeal to more than just comic enthusiasts.
The game is coming out in Spring 2008 according to Sega's website. Here's the trailer.
